DESCRIPTION

Aerial view over wing of formation of Douglas C-47 Skytrain cargo and troop transport planes leaves Saidor, New Guinea (present day Papua New Guinea). Robert Doyle notes that they were off the Japanese-held coast. The wing of the plane in which Doyle was a passenger is in the foreground. The plane in the center has the nose art depicting a reclining woman in the "pin-up style" with the text, "Hot-to-go."

Robert Doyle was a civilian war correspondent for the Milwaukee Journal during World War II, covering the experiences of Wisconsin troops in the 32nd "Red Arrow" Division, an infantry division of the United States Army National Guard. The "Red Arrow" Division consisted mainly of soldiers from Wisconsin and Michigan.
