DESCRIPTION

Casual portrait of photographer Sergeant Dick Hanley, smiling broadly and perched on the spare tire of a jeep, of YANK Army Weekly magazine. In his hands are the tools of his trade, a twin-lens reflex camera and light meter. The viewfinder cover is open and the logo for "Dick Hanley" photography appears on it. He left his civilian newsphoto beat on the streets of New York City to enlist in the Army. He ended up covering 12 different landings in the Southwest Pacific during General MacArthur's island hopping push north to Japan. He is wearing casual clothes instead of his uniform. He autographed the photo across the lower right corner.
