This page from a stock book from Ferdinand Hotz's Chicago based jewelry business shows his inventory of gemstones, his costs, and the clients who bought the jewelry he designed. Among those recorded here are Herbert Uihlein who was an officer of the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company and Otto H. Falk who was a partner in the Falk Corporation and later president of Allis-Chalmers. Bert Dow owned a large furniture store in suburban Chicago. James Richard Jewett was prominent in the lumber industry. The Joyce family was involved in railroads as well as timber, both in the Upper Midwest and the South. |
