Lowell(?) Hoffmaster as Chef
Lowell(?) Hoffmaster, a student at the Kehl School of Dance, poses in chef's costume with a serving tray.
The Kehl School of Dance (formerly Kehl's Dancing Academy) was founded in Madison in 1898 by Frederick W. Kehl, and later operated by his son Leo and other descendants. The photograph collection includes posed individual and group shots of Kehl students in full costume; images of events (most pre-1930) such as a flag drill at Henry Vilas Park in 1911, and the "living flag" demonstration on the Capitol steps in 1900; a few personal photos and shots of marquees with Kehl's Dance Troupe advertised, and of the interior and exterior of the studio building and of the Capitol Bowling Alley; and images of dance and entertainment professionals.
