During the War of 1812, the only battle fought in Wisconsin was in Prairie du Chien, in 1814. Made fifty-six years later, this birds eye drawing depicts the city's street names and street layouts, houses, trees, the Mississippi River, bridge and pier. A reference key at the bottom of the map shows the locations of the city's court house, school houses, college, Fort Crawford, railroad depot, Lower Town Station, Sisters' School, and the city's denominational churches (Congregational, Episcopal, Evangelical, Methodist, Catholic, and Lutheran).
