ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Tradition records that each of Bailey's fellow officers donated a portion of his pay in silver coin which was sent to Tiffany's, melted down, and formed into the punchbowl. The bowl is now in the collections of the Wisconsin Historical Society Museum; accession no. 65.228.1. A representation of the dam with steamboats departing is engraved on the side of the punchbowl not seen in this image. Also see Harper's Weekly, 1864, p. 385 for a similar scene.
