Ole Steensland
A seated, waist-up studio portrait of Ole Steensland, a private in Company K, 15th Wisconsin Infantry, in uniform. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Moscow, Wisconsin. On October 28, 1861, he enlisted in Iowa County, Wisconsin and on December 08, 1861, he was mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin at the age of 19. During the battle at Chickamauga, Georgia, on September 20, 1863, he was captured and held at Confederate prisoner war camps in Richmond and Danville, Virginia and at Andersonville, Georgia until he was paroled on April 28, 1865. Once paroled, he was sent to parole hospital in Annapolis, Maryland where he arrived on September 01, 1864. He was mustered out on May 30, 1865 in Madison, Wisconsin. |
