Prisoner of War Working in Cranberry Marsh


German Prisoner of War stationed in Wisconsin Rapids working on the A.E. Bennett and Sons Cranberry Marsh. He is spraying the cranberry crop with either an herbicide or pesticide and is wearing a mask to protect his face. The POW is wearing a prisoner's uniform with the letters "P.W." on the back of his shirt.

Many of the cranberry marshes in the Wisconsin Rapids area received the help of prisoners of war labor in 1945. According to the Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune, the POW's provided a great answer to the labor shortage in the area.
