An accompanying note reads, "Monarch Tractor Co., Watertown, Wis. Listed as a tractor manufacturer from 1916. In 1919 the Monarch Tractor Co. was reorganized into the General Tractors, Inc. Plant sold at auction in 1921. A new company known as Monarch Tractors, Inc. incorporated in 1922 to continue the manufacture of the Monarch tractor. The new company, Monarch Tractors, Inc., is not listed by Farm Implement News in their 1923 directory."
