DESCRIPTION

Father Michael Garrigan in the background wearing a white robe and glasses holding 8 a.m. mass at St. Joseph's Church with 30 marchers before a Obreros Unidos (United Workers) "march for respectability" beginning on Highway 21 and ending at the Capitol in Madison. This photograph is a part of Wisconsin-native David Giffey's series "Struggle for Justice," images from the migrant farm worker struggle including an independent organizing effort in Wisconsin and the nationwide grape boycott movement started by Cesar Chavez of United Farm Workers during the 1960s and 1970s.
