Statue on Truck Trailer in front of California Mission
Color photo of the metal statue "St. Francis of the Guns" on a truck trailer parked on the street. The statue represents St. Francis of Assisi, was created by San Francisco sculptor Beniamino Bufano, and was cast from the melted down barrels of 1,900 guns. The statue has a mosaic of assassination victims President John F. Kennedy, Robbert Kennedy, Martin Luther King, and Abraham Lincoln, with a group of people singing below them on it's lower half. In the background are vehicles, a small group of people, and a California mission church. A placard on the trailer reads: "This journey to San Diego was made possible by International Harvester Co., California Trucking Ass'n, C.T.A. Truck School, Shima Transfer Co., many thanks Joseph L. Alioto, Mayor." |
