Early Life
Robert Manning Antes was a newspaperman born near Monroe, Michigan. In 1876 he moved with his parents to Rockford, Illinois where he subsequently learned the printer's trade at the Gazette.
Career
In 1882 he moved to Evansville and established a job printing plant and in 1895, he purchased the Evansville Review with George Magee. He became sole owner of the paper in 1903 and in 1906 he absorbed the Evansville Badger and the Evansville Enterprise in 1911. In 1920 he formed the Antes Press, which became the official publisher of the Review and eventually one of the largest printing firms in the area.
