NOTES
Additional Information:Massive Queen Anne house with a cut stone foundation topped by a wide concrete watercourse with the first and second floors above having brick siding and being separated by a cement beltcourse. There is a second beltcourse above the second floor window lintels with a wide stucco freize above corbelled out slightly over the main walls and terminating under the wide overhanging eaves. The house is rectangular in plan, having a massive hip roof with four very large gable roof dormers overshooting the walls of the main facades. Those dormers on the east and west facades are broad enough to span the width of those facades. Each of the four dormers is sided in stucco and has false half-timber work framing three 1/1 light windows. On the woutheast corner of the house there is a 3-story circular tower terminating in a conical roof with the first two floors sided in brock and the third in stucco and false half-timber work. A flat roof front porch encircles the base of the tower and covers the full width of the main facade and is supported by nine concrete Tuscan order columns. All windows on the first two floors have brick, flat-arched keystone lintels with concrete keystones with the single exception of a large round-arched stained glass window in a rectilinear oriel on the north facade which lights the main stairs. There is also a 2 story polygonal bay on the south facade terminating under the corbelled dormer base. Architectural/Engineering Significance This house is significant as being by far the grandest Queen Anne style house on the west side of Green Bay and one of the largest and most impressive in the entire city. The relatively simple ornamentation of the whole serves to emphasize the various components of the design and is indicative of the late date of construction in this style. The significance of the house is enhanced by the almost completely original condition of the exterior and the retention of the original carriage house on the site (now modified for a different use.) #650: Carriage House
