Additional Information: | This two story Greek Revival styled house features an L-shaped plan configuration, a brick foundation, a brick exterior, a brick and wood trim, and an asphalt shingled multi-gable roof. The one-over-one windows on the front gabled portion of the building are set within segmental arched openings. Brick lintels and projecting sills further distinguish these windows. A front porch has an open design; its roof is supported by squared posts. Frieze boards, frieze windows, wide overhanging eaves and an addition are other architectural elements found on the dwelling. The residence is in fair condition. Architectural/Engineering Significance: This property meets cirteria C of the National Register requirements because the property retains enough of the character that it had when the town of Barton was growing and developing. This building contributes to the whole character of the Barton Historic District. Historical Background: Anthony Otten built this house around 1890. (See Bib. Ref. A). Otten ran the Otten General Store which was located at 1807 Barton Avenue. |
