| Additional Information: | LATTICE WORK AROUND PORCHES ON ALL 3 FLRSWOOD SHINGLES IN GABLES DESCRIPTION: A large three story Stick Style froam clapboard house with central hip gable roof with gabled two story projection on southwest wall with cutaway corners and original windows. Adjacent to this on the same facade is a projecting bay window that forms part of the stairwell inside and features some stained glass. The front of the house has a shed roof veranda with lattice work and turned pillars over an asymmetrical front entry. The second story features a similarly treated porch enclosed with decorative lattice work and turned pillars at the southwest corner. Above this, on the third floor is another lattice work porch area that is defined by the lines of the hip gable. The house is in excellent repair inside and outside and is currently rented to a group of Northland College students. Very minor alterations have been made to the inside thus preserving the elaborately carved stairs with newel post and bannister and some moldings. SIGNIFICANCE: This house is significant for its pivotal role in the proposed district and as one of two superbly preserved Stick Style residences in NRHP and is the Harrison residence at 121 Front Street (2-2). The house is unique in the district and represents the neighorhood's best Stick Style house. 2012: The home's owner believes that the house is a George Barber design. They confirm that some of the lumber pieces have numbers on them. |
