Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. The scale, shape and ornament of this two and one half story frame house are typical of the local, expressive handling of Colonial Revival motifs. In this instance, the front dormer features a porch recessed beneath a segmental arch. The enclosure of the front porch detracts from the overall design, and results in a lower designation. Compare to 645 Amherst (OS 17/2) and 521 Amherst (WN 29/19). C.W. Schmidt, a teller for the German National Bank, was the first occupant of the house. |
