This compact and homogenous ethnic settlement in southcentral Sauk County is where German-speaking Swiss from the Walser area of Canton Graubueden settled in the 1840s and 50s. The 12-square mile district includes 46 farmsteads of various periods between 1842 and 1919. it is especially noted for its group of stone houses which uniquely represent Swiss stone construction and for a group of early log houses. |
