Dunlap, Adam, Farmstead 9646 Dunlap Hollow Road, Town of Mazomanie, Dane County Dates of contributing resources: 1849-1929 Adam Dunlap settled in the area now known as Dunlap Hollow in 1846. Adam Dunlap moved from New York to Wisconsin with his wife Harriet, and his parents John and Nancy Dunlap. Adam and Harriet had 10 children. Adam Dunlap was an industrious farmer and quickly expanded his land holdings. Beginning with 80 acres in 1846, by 1854 he owned 400. The Dunlaps grew wheat, the crop of choice for early Euro-American farmers, and oats and corn to feed livestock. In addition they had milk cows and raised sheep. Located off Dunlap Hollow Road, the farmstead includes a Greek Revival style, nine room, limestone house, a limestone barn, ruins of another section of barn, a stone ice house, and a corn crib, all from about 1849, and a chicken house built in the 1920s. A German stone mason from nearby Sauk County constructed buildings on the farm using stone quarried on the property. The farmstead is private property and is not open to the public. Please respect the privacy of the owners.
