Beals, Edward D. and Vina Shattuck, House 220 North Park Avenue; Neenah, Winnebago County Architect: Alexander C. Eschweiler Date of Construction: 1911 Four years after industrialist Edward Duncan Beals married Kimberly-Clark Corp. heiress Vina Shattuck, the couple began construction of an imposing Arts and Crafts mansion overlooking the Fox River in Neenah. Designed by Milwaukee architect Alexander C. Eschweiler, it is one of Neenah's most notable houses. Completed in 1911, the house is distinguished for Eschweiler's incorporation of architectural elements popularized by British architect C. F. A. Voysey, one of the defining reformist designers of the Arts and Crafts movement. The dominant roof planes and vast, unornamented walls of stucco are characteristic of Voysey's style, as are the tiered overhangs, multi-paned window groupings and the integral porches and verandahs. The Beals House is a private residence. Please respect the residents' rights and privacy. |
