Glidden, Town of Jacobs, Ashland County

The Glidden State Bank is situated in the unincorporated hamlet of Glidden on the edge of the Chequamegon National Forest in southern Ashland County. Glidden sprang up with the coming of the Wisconsin Central Railroad in 1877 and developed as lumbering support community. By the first years of the twentieth century, the community had over 800 residents and was home to wood product manufacturing facilities and a variety of businesses. Local builder Conrad Mohr erected the brownstone-faced building in 1905 for the new Glidden State Bank, established in 1902.

The Glidden State Bank has a 73-year association with Glidden's financial institutions, beginning with the Glidden State Bank and continuing through its successor firms, Citizens State Bank of Glidden, the German-American State Bank of Glidden, the American State Bank of Glidden, and Northern State Bank. The Northern State Bank moved out of the building in 1978.

The building is private property and is not open to the public. Please respect the privacy of the owners.
