SUMMARY
East Third Street Residential Historic District
Both sides of East Third Street from Central Avenue to Fourth Avenue E, Washburn, Bayfield County
Dates of Construction: 1885-1950

Located northwest of Washburn’s historic commercial core, this district features tree-lined streets with landscaped lots of mown lawns, and ornamental shrubs and flowers. The homes represent continuous decades of construction from 1885 through 1950 representing a variety of architectural styles. Early houses are of the Queen Anne style as well as vernacular forms. Homes from the early twentieth century include the Bungalow, Craftsman and Prairie School and Period Revival styles. The resulting district constitutes a fine collection of Washburn’s architecturally significant residential buildings.

The DuPont Company was influential in this neighborhood because it constructed many homes for its employees here. These homes were well designed and contribute to the unique architectural character of the district.
