SUMMARY
Henry and Mary Heyrman House
403 S Michigan Street, De Pere, Brown County
Date of Construction: 1903

Henry and Mary Heyrman had this house constructed in 1903 and lived here with their seven children. Henry was a printer by trade getting his start at age 12 working for his father, John B. Heyrman who founded the "De Pere Standard" newspaper and was later publisher of the "Brown County Democrat" newspaper. The "De Pere Standard" paper was the only Catholic newspaper in the United States at that time published in the Dutch language. Henry worked at both of these newspapers and continued working as a printer for 63 years. Henry lived in this house until his death in 1943 at the age of 75 and Mary continued to live there until finally selling the home after more than forty years of residency.

The Heyrman House is one of the best examples of the Queen Anne style in De Pere having many of the design characteristics of the style including: irregularity of plan and massing, an asymmetrical façade, a prominent gable at the front, wood siding and shingle wall treatments, wall projections, cutaway bay windows and a full-width front porch.

This house is private property. Please respect the privacy of the owners.
