Additional Information: | William ‘Bill” Niederkorn was born in 1887 on a farm in Ozaukee County. Three years later his family moved to Port Washington. After graduating from school, he attended the Hoffman Business College of Milwaukee. Upon returning to Port Washington, he later establishes the Simplicity Manufacturing Company, producing boring and grinding machines, lawnmowers, tillers, and other small engine devices. In 1928, he married Myra Larson and constructed a house at 746 West Grand Avenue. A successful businessman, ‘Bill’ established the Simplicity Employees’ Trust Fund in 1942 and donated funds to build the Niederkorn Library, located at 316 West Grand Avenue, in 1961. In 1965, Niederkorn sold the Simplicity Company to Allis-Chalmers and retired. ‘Bill” died in 1976. |
