Additional Information: | Ed Gordon was the owner at time of the survey. 2001 Architecture/History Survey for compliance case -The Geuder, Paeschke & Frey Company, manufacturers of tin, copper, and sheet-iron cooking utensils and household items, moved to this building in 1890. By the mid-1980s, Milwaukee produced one-third of the tinware used in the United States-a large portion of which was made by Geuder, Paeschke & Frey. In the early-twentieth century, the company began to manufacture specialized parts for the automobile industry, including oil pans and crank cases. During WWI, the enterprise produced canteens, gas tanks and ammunition boxes. At the time, company facilities were housed in multiple buildings encompassing 17 acres. Many of the buildings are no longer extant. In the mid-twentieth century, the company de-emphasized housewares manufacturing and focused on custom-made metal parts. By 1984, the remaining operations of Geuder, Paeschke & Frey were assumed under General Press & Fabricating Company. 2016 - Four- story L-plan industrial loft with brick cornice and belt course, segmental arch windows. A round arch entrance at the northwest corner has been infilled, but windows have been replaced in kind with 12/12 double hung units, restoring some openings previously obscured. A railroad corridor is at rear, adjacent to the infilled loading bays on the west elevation. **2020 - Resurveyed for I-94 Project 1060-27-04 by HRL: Only nominal changes since 2016. |
