NOTES
Additional Information:LARGE GARAGE DOOR AND WINDOW ON FRONT FACADE F roll negatives filed with Fox River Valley Survey project. NAER INVENTORY (06/1979): The Henrick Gaede blacksmith shop is a one-story frame building with wood foundation, double wood floor, horizontal wood siding, and gable and rolled metal roof. The rectangular-shaped facility measures approximately 40' x 25'. Siding on the front of the building is tongue and groove, painted red. The sides of the building are butted, also red. Windows are either sash or double-hung sash with wood lug sills. The building has hinged double doors at the front. Philip Schatz purchased this already existing blacksmith shop from Henrick Gaede and his wife, Florentina, in 1874. The deed of sale mentions that the transaction included all "tuls" and stock. The property was sold to Peter Geiger in 1922, and then to Joe Kwasny in 1934. In 1935, Ernst G. Siebert bought the property and, with his son, Gilford, operated a blacksmith shop and farm implement store. The building today houses the Ernst G. Siebert & Son blacksmith, welding and woodworking shop. Intact interior items include: a shrinker; horseshoe table, with necessary tools; iron cone; iron mold for molding rods; horseshoe nails; horse nose clamp; forge; anvil; large supply of original tools; a roller to roll iron for wagon wheels; rings on the interior of the building to tie up horses; and a woodmaking table with vice.
