Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for the Holy Cross Historic District. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the State Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. Photo code #3: 75BR-15/11 Very fine example updated at a later, but still significant date. The roofs of the ells have each been modified with jerkinhead roofs. Portions of the original decorated bargeboards still exist below, as do the exposed purlin ends below the eaves. The northeast fcing ell ahs a two-story-tall polygonal bay attached to its main facade. A large stepped brick chimney mass is placed just in front of this ell and has a concrete plaque on it which reads, "G. Denis 1888." The rear ell is lower than the rest and has a fine shed roofed canopy with a gablet over the side entrance on the south facing facade just behind the northeast facing ell. A later hip roofed sunporch endows the juncture of the front or westerly facing ell and the southerly facing ell and was added in 1928. This porch has a wide flared eaves. There is also a small entrance hood supported by knee braces over the main entrance door which dates from 1928. #650: Very fine complex of large gambrel roofed brick garage and storage buildings behind the house (BR 121/12) with metal roofs and segmental arched window opening. |
