It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Photo code #2: 75BR-8/18 Fine design featuring four octagonal gatehouse buildings containing offices, machinery, etc. Buildings are identical and each sided in cut stone and have decorative cresting above the cornice encircling the pavilion shaped roof. The cresting has a repeated motif of lion's head masks. Each of the four gatehouses rests on a massive concrete foundation. The bridge itself is of steel and carries four lanes of traffic on an asphalt surface over steel decking. The bridge operates on the drawbridge principle. A plaque on the bridge details the history of the bridge and identifies it as a "Strauss Trunnion Bascule Bridge. Patented. Was replaced by a modern bridge after demolition in 1995.
