Photo code #2: BR-FRV 1/13,15 Originally a four store building, of which 1263 Main St. is taller than the rest and has a large triple window group in the center of the second floor main facade blanked by two smaller single windows. All have segmental arched openings with the center group having a triple header course brick lintel with three cement panels decorating it, while the smaller side window has a corbelled brick hood mold with small square concrete panels as steps. This two story building is flanked by three other units, of which one is to the left and two to the right, and all of which were built at the same time and use design motifs found on the earlier and taller unit. This makes an identical brick corbelled parapet having a metal covered cornice above. All 2nd floor windows on the later buildings have 6/1 light flat arched windows with brick lintels having concrete steps. All display windows on the 1st floor have been altered and a modern metal paneled strip covers the original transom windows. NAER INVENTORY (07/1979): This irregularly shaped facility is a combination 2 and 2 1/2 story structure with brick exterior and flat roofs, measuring approximately 150' x 105'. The facility has a brick chimney and decorative brick work on the facade. A brick building listed at two stories and housing a store and bakery is listed at 1259 (formerly 1263) Main St. in a 1917 insurance map, surrounded by frame structures. By 1934 the surrounding construction- 1259, 1265 and 1267 Main (old addresses) - is listed as brick, all two stories. (The part at 1263 Main in this 1934 source is listed as 2 stories and not its actual 2 1/2. The same holds true for the 1918 source.) The brick additions replacing the frame construction possibly were part of the "new modern bakery" construction at this site in 1927 (see below). In the 1934 map the front sections of 1259 to 1267 main are listed as stores, while the rear portion is listed as the Bohemian firm's bake house. Green Bay Intensive Survey Phases 2, 3 & 4 |
