Additional Information:City of Green Bay, Wisconsin - Architectural and Historical Intensive Survey Report Phase 1 - 2021 LONG BLDG WITH RAISED CENTRAL GABLE* [Date Cnst: 1920] NAER INVENTORY (08/1979): The older structure on this site was constructed in 1911 by N.J. Hess as the Hess Iron Works. The property was held by Hess until 1917 when C.A. Straubel retained it until 1919. At this time it was sold to the Conradson Machine Tool Co., subsequently resold to Ryerson& Son Inc. in 1923 and eventually to Green Bay Drop Forge in 1925. The site experienced considerable improvement in 1920 when the sawtoothed machine shop was constructed. The Green Bay Drop Forge Co. manufactured auto parts and employed as many as 215 people. The original Ness Machine Shop measures 210' x 50', gabled clear story roof, wood framed, with wood and metal siding. The newer structrue is constructed of concrete block, and sawtoothed roof structure 240' x 200'.
