NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' titled "Sunset Circle Residential Historic District" exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. 2023 The Michael J. and Carolyn G. Barnard House was constructed by Detrie Construction and completed in 1970. The house is a one-story ranch type single-family dwelling exhibiting influence of the Colonial Revival style. The house presents characteristics of both the ranch type in its low-pitch roof, horizontality, recessed entrance, and attached garages in addition to as a balanced façade, quoins, and frieze trim that are characteristic of the Colonial Revival style. It is U-shaped in plan with cross-hipped wings projecting from the main volume on either end of the house. The exterior is clad in brick with wide band frieze trim below the boxed overhanging eaves. A broad interior brick chimney rises from the roof ridge of the main volume. The principal elevation is nearly symmetrical with evenly spaced paired 12-lite casement windows that span the height of the façade; the windows were installed after 2013 and are similar to the previous 10-lite casement windows. The main entrance is recessed into the house at the junction of the main volume and the west wing. A low brick knee-wall creates an open courtyard between the projecting wings. The side-facing attached three-car garage is in the east wing of the house. A direct driveway and a formal semi-circular driveway are in front of the house.
