Additional Information: | A 'site file' titled "Sunset Circle Residential Historic District" exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. 2014 The Harry J. Brown House is a Ranch house constructed in 1961. It is of frame construction and clad in red brick veneer. The house has a cross gable roof covered in asphalt shingles. The roof has wide eaves that extend over the porch. On the front (south) facade, the main entrance is slightly off center and recessed. A large, five bay picture window is located at the center of the house. Other windows are fixed, paired windows. A two-car garage to the side (east) elevation. 2023 Although the Village of Allouez assessor data lists the construction date for 600 Sunset Circle as 1961, the building permit indicates the house was constructed by DeLeers Construction company as a speculative house beginning in 1968. The Green Bay City Directory listed the house as “under construction” in 1969, and the house was advertised for sale in the Green Bay Press-Gazette in 1969. However, comparison of the city directories and deed records indicates that the house was used as a rental property by owner and real estate professional, Ralph Van Oss, until 1986. The house is a one-story, cross-gabled ranch type single-family residence with a forward-facing attached garage. The house is clad in red brick veneer and vinyl siding. The low-pitch roof features closed eaves that moderately overhang the house and an internal brick chimney that rises from the roof ridge. The main entrance is offset toward the west end of the house and is recessed below the prominent cross-gable and features a wrought iron support. A large picture window, consisting of five vertical individual casement windows, is located at the center of the house. The two-car garage is offset toward the east end of the house and is accessed from Sunset Circle. The vinyl siding was installed in 2005 in the cross-gable end and on the side and rear elevations. |
