Additional Information: | A 'site file' titled "Sunset Circle Residential Historic District" exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. 2023 Although the Village of Allouez assessor data indicates that 655 Sunset Circle was constructed in 1938, aerial imagery captured in June of 1938 indicates that no houses were completed at that time. The Green Bay City Directory from the 1940s, U.S. Census Records from 1950, and aerial imagery captured in 1951 confirms that 644 and 655 Sunset Circle were the first two houses constructed on Sunset Circle and were the only two houses extant at that time. Deed records and the Green Bay City Directory (1941 and 1943) indicate that 655 Sunset Circle was the second house constructed in the historic district and was originally constructed for Winter J. and Hagel Evans. Winter J. and Hagel Evans House is a two-story Colonial Revival influenced single-family dwelling. The house is L-shaped in plan consisting of the side-gabled two-story living space with a cross-gabled hyphen and attached garage; a one-story front-gabled sunroom was also adjoined to the west end of the south (principal) elevation. The exterior of the lower story is clad in cream brick while the upper story is clad in vinyl siding. An exterior brick chimney is centered in the west (side) elevation. The principal elevation is asymmetrical in composition although balanced into two distinct halves. The main entrance is off center in the east half and slightly recessed into the house. The windows have all been replaced, predominantly with one-over-one vinyl sash hung windows; however, three bay windows have been retained. As previously mentioned, a one-story sunroom was added to the west half of the principal elevation. The date of construction is unknown but occurred prior to 1988 at which time the garage was expanded by 6 feet from its entrance (south) elevation. A distinct seam in the brick confirms the addition. |
