Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Demolished between 2013 and 2022. 2013- "The Richland County Poor Farm contains eight contributing resources including the Senior Citizens' Home (AHI#224263), the Home for the Aged (224260), a garage (224261), a water utility building (224262), a sewage disposal building (224264), two cemeteries (224266 and 224267), and a caretaker's cottage (224269). Noncontributing resources include a picnic shelter (224270) and a storage shed (224271). This 2-story Neoclassical building was constructed in 1930 as part of the Richland County Poor Farm. It is irregular in plan with brick walls and asphalt-shingled gable roofs. The building consists of a main 2-story front-gabled mass that is flanked by smaller, 1-story side-gabled wings on the north and west sides. Both gable ends are closed to suggest Classical pediments; round window openings are located in the center, although only the window in the east gable is glazed. The front elevation faces east; original pillars have been removed to accommodate a new porch and the front door has been replaced. Enclosed porches with vinyl siding are also located on the south and north elevations; these were originally sun rooms in the men's and women's wings of the building, but have been resided in vinyl and windows have been replaced. A new concrete and metal wheelchair ramp is connected to the southern porch. A 1-story, front-gabled heating plant projects from the western elevation of the central building mass; the northwest corner of the projection contains a tall brick chimney. Windows throughout the building are predominantly 1-over-1; these have replaced original multi-pane double-hung windows." - "Richland County Poor Farm", WisDOT ID #5409-06-00, Prepared by GLARC, Inc (Gail Klein) (2013). |
