Additional Information: | Now a private residence, Maple Grove School served as the main grade school in Iron Ridge from about 1910 to 1960, the last year the school operated as an independent district. Prior to its closure, this site had been occupied since 1855 for educational purposes; the first 1855 school, a log structure, burned and was replaced by a brick structure. In 1909, the school board voted to construct a new graded school. Construction began in 1910 and was completed by Fisher and Gaedeke, local builders. In 1958, the county school committee consolidated Maple Grove into a new District #18, along with four other nearby rural schools, White Lime, Neda, Hickory Shade and Ledge. In 1960 the district merged with the Horicon School. Following the merger, Maple Grove was sold to Eugene Hagan, Roland Schroeder and Victor Schultz, operators of a realty company, who renovated it into a house and sold it to the Krusche family. The Merkels family owned the property from 1977 to 1985. In 1999, it was owned by the Draeger family. |
