Additional Information: | Henry Ruel was born in 1867 to German settlers on a farm in the present-day Town of Jefferson. In the late nineteenth century, he left his family farm and married his wife, Millie. A house was constructed for the couple in the settlement of Helenville. In 1899, Henry Ruel established a Farm Implements and Goods store in Helenville and soon expanded his business into automobile sales in the early twentieth century as he co-founded the Jefferson Automobile Company and Fords, Buicks, and Overland cars. In 1909 he became the postmaster for Helenville, and in 1914, he became president of the newly established German-American Bank of Helenville. He died in 1936. |
