Additional Information: | 2013: A Gothic arch basement barn is located north of the farmhouse. According to the property owner, the barn was built in 1940 to replace an earlier one (the 1940 building appears to use the foundation from the earlier barn) destroyed in a tornado that year. Resting on a fieldstone foundation, the walls are clad in vertical wood siding, and the roof is covered in asphalt shingles and features flared eaves and two gable dormers on each side. Two metal ventilators are mounted on the ridgeline of the roof. A sliding door is centered on the east gable end, and a hay hood shelters a hay door flanked by two window openings containing six-over-six, wood, double-hung sash. A small gable milk house, added in 1955, is attached to the south elevation of the barn at the southeast corner, and a gable-roof ell extends off the north elevation. The barn is flanked by a pair of c.1925 slip-form concrete silos. The Houfe Century Farm is located at the northwest corner of Pomeroy Road and CTH F. The property includes a farmhouse [86066], basement (dairy) barn [224873], tobacco barns [224893 and 224896], animal barns [224894 and 224895], silos [including 224962], grain bins, a corncrib [224891], and several other outbuildings [including an equipment shed, 224892]. |
