Additional Information: | 2013- Rising two stories and topped with a flat roof, this astylistic commercial building is sheathed with asbestos siding and features two storefronts comprised of brick bulkheads and plate-glass windows. The left (south) storefront displays a trio of transom windows that are painted (or panel in fill) over. A canted doorway provides access at the southeast comer. Second-floor fenestration consists of original, one-over-one, double-hung sashes arranged singly or in pairs. Several rafter tail-like elements are evident within the plain, wooden parapet. A concrete-block garage addition extends from the rear (west) facade. City directories indicate that this building was constructed between 1908 and 1912 as a meat market for Frank Witte. Joseph Kronzer operated the meat market in 1920 with the longest ownership tenure attributed to Victor Muller in the 1930s and 1940s. Maynard Muller continued the meat market into the 1950s with the Kalamazoo Heating Company taking over the building by 1960. Architecturally, this astylistic commercial building lacks distinctive architecture detail and has had its storefronts partially remodeled. |
