Additional Information: | 2013- Rising two-and-one-half stories, this front-gabled duplex is sheathed with clapboard with a wooden band between the two levels. Gabled wall dormers are covered with fishscale shingles. A gabled, enclosed entry porch is situated near the northeast comer and it displays a continuous series of three-over-one, double-hung sash windows. Fenestration throughout the house generally consists of one-over-one, double-hung sashes arranged singly and in pairs; several small fixed windows are scattered throughout the building. While Sanborn maps depict this house as a duplex, city directories suggest that it was built between 1903 and 1908 as the home of home of W.E. Dailey-- a baggageman for the Chicago & North Western (CNW) Railroad. CNW dispatcher George W. Rogers occupied the house with his wife Sarah in 1912, while cabinetmaker Albert H. Townsend, along with his wife Emma, owned the house from the late 1910s into the 1950s. William Kohls owned the house in 1960. The home does display an intact appearance; however, it is without significant ornamentation and does not exhibit a distinct architectural style. |
