NOTES
Additional Information:The Agnew School was constructed in 1930 in a One Story Cube style. The school is square in plan with an asphaltshingled,
hipped roof with gabled dormers extending from the north and south roof slopes with small one-over-one
windows centered in each. A brick chimney rises from the southern roof slope west of the dormer. The exterior is clad in
red brick that is coursed with a layer of perpendicularly laid brick every sixth row. A brick course of vertically laid brick
wraps around the school, delineating the main floor from the basement. The principal elevation faces east onto STH 13
and is symmetrical in plan. The gabled entrance vestibule extends from the center of the east fagade with corner pilasters
supporting the entablature below which includes a date stone reading "Agnew School1930". The entrance is comprised of
a round archway with beveled fanlight and multi-light sidelights. Two six-over-six, double-hung windows are evenly set on
either side of the entrance.

The Agnew School is representative of the history of education in the rural area surrounding
STH 13 in the Town of White River. The Agnew School was constructed in 1930 after the first school was destroyed by
fire. It was ultimately decommissioned in 1960 and became a private residence. According to the current property owner,
the interior still retains portions of the original moulding and chalkboards, although the building now functions as a private
residence.

The Agnew School is in good condition and retains a moderate degree of integrity. The
exterior brickwork and the original windows, fanlight, and sidelights remain intact. Of the small rectangular windows in the
south facade, one has been bricked in, and the other partially bricked. Although the roof dormers were almost certainly
added as part of the building's conversion to a private residence, these do not heavily detract from the building's overall
massing or original aesthetic. Presently, the school's interior floorplan consists of multiple rooms with portions of the
chalkboards and the original woodworking intact. The building is a good representative of the one-to-six-room
school property type, and may be the best remaining representative in White River.
