Additional Information: | 2013 This frame commercial building was constructed c.1900 and features a two-story boomtown facade with one-story wings on each side. The exterior is clad in drop siding and aesthetic treatment is limited to scrolled brackets spaced evenly across the cornice (a number of which are missing). The false front extends above, and hides, a gable roof sheathed with corrugated metal panels. The main, central portion of the building consists of a ground-level storefront beneath a second-story communal or living space with a full-width balcony. The storefront is symmetrical with a slightly recessed central entry door flanked by display windows. The wood bulkhead has inset paneling, and the transom windows have been removed or covered. The second floor facade has only a center double door. The balcony is supported by square wood posts and has a simple wood railing. Historically, the balcony was roofed and had turned wood posts and a far more decorative railing. The side walls of the second story contain one-over-one, wood sash windows. As noted, the core of the building is flanked by one-story wings. The south wing appears to be original to the building and is a long rectangular frame structure with a widely overhanging pent roof. Wood plank sliding doors line the front, which, when open, appear to create an open-air, market-like space. The north wing is a small shed-roofed frame structure with hinged wood plank doors that has the appearance of a garage or storage shed. It is not original to the building, but likely dates to the historic period. |
