Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. 2012- "This two-story commercial vernacular building is faced with cream bricks on the main elevation and light red bricks side walls. It has a simple classically-influenced cornice and four openings on the second story. These openings have been partially enclosed for modern single-light sashes. Most of the original storefront is extant with two large show windows sitting on paneled bulkheads flanking three entrances with transoms. The entrances, though, are filled with modem steel doors that are not period appropriate. This building was probably built around 1903 by J. H. Norton and may have replaced a smaller building on the same site. The building, as it is seen today, appears on pre-1909 photos, but on the 1891 plat map, it is not extant. The Langdon Brothers took over ownership of the building in 1907. Their name appears on an awning on this building on an historic photograph." -"Request for SHPO Comment and Consultation on a Federal Undertaking", Prepared by Carol Lohry Cartwright, Historic Resources Consultant, (2012). |
