Additional Information: | Rising from a rubble fieldstone foundation and originally sheathed with narrow clapboard, this one-and-one-half-story, front-gabled house is currently (2013) being re-sided with cement fiber board. A central door is flanked by rectangular, two-light, picture windows, while a pair of one-over-one-light sashes occupies the upper floor. Patterned siding covers the gabled peak. Assessor’s records indicate that the house was built in 1908. Based on plat maps, the house is believed to have been built by farmer John Herbst, the son of Leonard Herbst (see discussion below for 9314 N. 60th Street). The Herbst family retained the 52-acre parcel until it was sold to Atkins & Wahlberg, for development as the Cloverleaf Estates West subdivision. |
