Additional Information: | 2019- This dairy barn stands on the historic Lewis C. and Mary Williams farmstead. The property was previously identified in the AHI as the Lewis C. and Margaret Williams Farmstead (22700-227206), but Lewis C. and Mary Williams are more appropriately associated with the property. County records indicate the dairy barn was constructed in 1937. It has concrete block walls and a tall gambrel roof with asphalt shingles, lightning rods, and metal ventilators. A loft hood extends over the south elevation, which has a metal door in the loft opening and two small windows in the wood gable-end, and sliding door and small windows at ground level. A small gabled bay extends from its east wall and three silos stand along its west side. Portions of the stockyard that stands to its south are fenced in by concrete walls. It was inventoried in the 2019 Kenosha County intensive survey as representative example of dairy barns but was not recommended eligible. This building is not individually eligible. The farmstead as a whole is also recommended not eligible for listing in the NRHP. 2013- "This farmstead consists of seven historic resources including a house [227200], garage [227201], poultry house [227202], stone outbuilding [227208], dairy barn complex [227204], corn crib [227205], and a pole barn [227206]. Recently constructed resources include a c.1973 hay/cattle shed and a c.1983 grain bin. The dairy barn complex consists of a rectangular barn and milk house with four attached silos. The barn itself was constructed c. 1950, along with the southernmost silo. The other three silos were constructed in the mid-1970s. The barn is of concrete block construction with an asphalt-shingled arched roof. Small, rectangular window openings are located at regular intervals just below the roofline of the east elevation; some of these window openings are glazed while others are not. A gable-roofed milk house (also of concrete block construction) projects from the center of the eastern elevation." -"USH 45: 16th Ave to STH 50", WisDOT#3200-01-02, Prepared by Gail Klein, (2013). |
