Additional Information: | Ticket booth. 2014- "The Skyway Drive-In was constructed in 1950. The site consists of an outdoor movie screen [227866], a roadside sign [227867], a ticket booth [227868], a concession stand [227869], and the outdoor theater area [227870] itself. The outdoor movie screen was constructed in 1950 and is approximately 50 feet wide. The screen faces south and is of metal construction with metal sheeting throughout the front side to provide a flat surface upon which to project images. Metal and concrete anchors are located in back of the screen. The roadside sign was constructed in 1950 and is located just north of the movie screen. It consists of a wood and metal base that supports a metal signboard. The base has an arched “cut out” at the center. The bottom part of the signboard contains an illuminated letter board surrounded by individual glass light bulbs. Above this is a trapezoidal box with the words “SKYWAY DRIVE IN” spelled out in neon tubing. The ticket booth was constructed in 1950. It is a small shed with corrugated metal walls and a metal shed roof. Sliding ticket windows are located in the north and west elevations. The ticket booth is sheltered by a gabled roof supported by round metal poles; the shelter roof is clad in wood shingles. The concession stand was constructed in 1950 and is located at the center of the theater grounds. It is irregular in plan with composition board and concrete block walls and flat and shed roofs. The eastern half of the building contains a concessions window and an adjacent doorway in its north elevation. The western half of the building contains two sets of restrooms with doorways recessed under the main roof. The outdoor theater area consists of eight curving rows of metal speaker stands and adjacent gravel drives. The speaker stands have rounded concrete bases, tubular metal supports, and movable speakers." -"STH 42: Bluff Lane (Gibraltar) to Country Walk Dr (Sister Bay), WisDOT#4140-19-00, Prepared by Gail Klein, (2014). |
