Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. This Colonial Revival house was constructed in 1899 according to city assessor records. It is rectangular in plan with an asphalt shingled gambrel roof, patterned shingling in the gables and stucco cladding on the exterior. The principal elevation faces north onto Horicon Street. A rectangular bank of three 1-over-1 windows is center in the gable end with a central round arch fan detail above. The gable end is closed with a wood-shingled pent roof. A two-story bay window is offset to the west end of the facade featuring single windows in each bay at the upper and lower levels. A band of wood trim runs around the entirety of the house, delineation upper and lower story. At the east elevation, a gambrel roof dormer projects form the roof slope and is supported on Tuscan columns to shade an upper level porch. Below a large shed roof addition has been adjouined to the east facade at the lower level and contains a garage and the breezeway entrance into the house. The house is in good condition with a moderate degree of integrity. The garage addition, although located on a side elevation, compromises the integrity of the exterior. However, if the interiors are still intact, they would represent an excellent example of Colonial Revival/Free Classic Queen Anne-style interiors. The high level of artistry of the interiors would probably make the house eligible for listing in the NRHP; thus the property is recommended as potentially eligible under Criterion C. Proposed adjaccent project activities will reconstruct Horicon St (STH 28) in front of the property. City utility improvements and storm sewer construction will require additional trench excavation withing the 66' right of way. The existing sidewalk and terrace will be reconstructed. As the project has the potential to impact the propery's setting, a DOE is recommended. The property was not previously surveyed. A new inventory record was created for it. |
