NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office.

This two-story house was built around 1930. The house is cross-gabled and is clad in cream brick studded with
irregularly-placed fieldstones. The house exhibits several American Craftsman elements, including exposed rafter tails,
knee braces, and bargeboards which taper to a long, exaggerated point. Fenestration consists of single and paired six-over-
one double hung windows. All windows have stone sills and brick lintels. The windows in the south (side) elevation
are topped with brick blind arches, while those in the other elevations have straight lintels. A five-sided bay window with
narrow arches is located in the front elevation. The windows in this bay appear to be modern replacements. A glazed
porch with fieldstone half-walls and corner piers is located in the front elevation. The porch gable is clad in shingles.

The house displays several elements typically associated with the Craftsman style, including the broad
gables, rafter tails, eave brackets, and bargeboards. In terms of number and quality of these character-defining elements,
there are better Craftsman houses in Mayville. However, the brick-and-stone cladding is unusual for the surrounding
community and may represent a unique or localized construction technique. In addition, the house may be the work of a
locally significant designer or builder. The house is recommended as potentially eligible under Criterion C.
Proposed adjacent project activities will reconstruct Main St (STH 67) in front of the property. City utilities and storm
sewers will also be improved within the existing right of way. The parking along the east (opposite) side of Main St will be
removed. A bike lane will be added within the existing roadway footprint. The existing sidewalk and terrace will be
reconstructed. Although the proposed work will take place within the existing ROW, the project has the potential to impact
the property's setting. A DOE is recommended.

The property had not been previously surveyed. A new inventory record was created for it.
