Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Resurveyed in June 2020 by UWM-CRM as part of STH 59 reconstruction project (WisDOT ID# 2773-10-70). Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church was constructed in 1965. The church complex consists of an A-frame sanctuary, a flat-roofed fellowship hall, and a flat-roofed classroom wing. The sanctuary has a tall, prominent roof clad in concrete tile shingles. The roof is capped by a flat deck containing skylights. The lower portion of the church’s exterior walls contain structural concrete piers; the wall bays between the piers are clad in Lannon stone and have horizontal wood clerestory windows beneath deeply-overhanging eaves. The fellowship hall is located near the center of the complex and connects the sanctuary, entrance spaces, and the classroom wing. The one-story classroom wing is lower in height than the fellowship hall. The north and south (long) elevations of the classroom wing are clad in Lannon stone and have tall, paired windows and Contemporary-style projecting roof beams. The east end of the classroom wing is glad in concrete block. |
