Additional Information: | The original 1960 mass of the building is T-shaped in plan and faces northeast toward USH 51. A rear addition and extension of the northwest wing were added circa 1980. The building houses the Town government offices, Chamber of Commerce, and Community Center. 2019: The Manitowish Waters Town Hall was constructed in 1960, replacing an older Town Hall that was located adjacent to Pine Lawn Cemetery (not extant). The building is 1-story, gable-roofed building laid out in a T-shape. The front elevation faces northeast and features an art glass panel in the peak of the shallowly gabled roof, over the central double-door entryway. Windows are arranged symmetrically on either side of the entryway in banks of three single-pane windows. The gabled roof features wide overhanging eaves and a heavy cornice. A square, gabled cupola is located at the intersection of the ridgelines on the roof. The building was under renovation at the time of the site visit, so future sheathing and roofing materials are unclear. The windows have only recently been installed. Update 2021: Renovations have been completed: New siding materials (installed in 2019-20) consist of a horizontal wide wood plank atop a half wall of fieldstone veneer. The fieldstone veneer also flanks either side of the recessed entryway, with a band of three one-over-one fixed pane aluminum windows to either side. An addition was constructed in 2019-20, extending the southeast wing of the building and adding an accessible ramp to a smaller secondary entrance. |
