NOTES
Additional Information:This 21/2 story Prairie School house was constructed c.1920. It is rectangular in plan with brick and stucco walls and an
asphalt-shingled hipped roof. The front elevation faces south and is symmetrical in plan with a recessed front porch
across the first story. The porch is supported by four brick piers and is accessed by a set of concrete steps. Inside the
porch is a central front door with sidelights and a narrow transom; banks of three double-hung windows are located on
each side of the door. The second story of the facade contains two pairs of double-hung windows at each end and a
slightly recessed bank of five windows in the center. These center windows appear to enclose what may have been an
open second-story porch; this area is divided into bays by two squared pilasters. A simple wood railing runs below all five
of the center windows. A shed-roofed dormer projects from the center roof slope. This contains a pair of multi-pane fixed sash
windows. These windows display a geometric Prairie-style pattern that is also visible in the upper panes of some of
the original double-hung windows throughout the rest of the house (others have been replaced by simple 1-over-1
windows).

The building is in good condition, but retains only a moderate degree of integrity due to the
enclosure of the second-story porch and the replacement of some of the original patterned window glazing. The house
displays the geometric-patterened upper window sashes, massive square porch supports, low-pitched hipped roof, and
wide overhanging eaves typical of the Prairie School style. Due to its diminished integrity, however, the house is not an
especially fine representative of the style. A number of better examples can be found elsewhere in Racine (WHPD
records 30 others in the City of Racine, 21 of which are NRHP listed).

This building has not been previously surveyed. A new AHI record was created.
