Additional Information: | This 2 1/2 story American Foursquare house was constructed c.1921. It is rectangular in plan with vinyl siding and an asphalt-shingled hipped roof. The front elevation faces west and is asymmetrical in plan with a 1-story flat-roofed porch spanning the width of the fagade. The porch has brick half-walls and squared brick piers at each front corner. Decorative brickwork with inset stone details and a stone scupper are located in the front porch wall. Inside the porch is a multi-pane front door with multi-pane sidelights. Adjacent to this is a large picture window is flanked by two narrow 1-over-1 windows. The second story of the fagade contains a pair of double hung windows and a bank of four double hung windows; all of these windows display patterned multi-pane upper sashes and single-pane lower sashes. A hipped-roof dormer projects from the center of the front roof slope. This contains a central pair of fixed-sash windows that display the same decorative multi-pane glazing. The building is in good condition, but retains only a moderate degree of integrity due to the replacement or covering of the original wall material with vinyl siding. The building is a fairly typical representative of the American Foursquare style as it features the characteristic boxy form and massing, full-width front porch, and front dormer. It is not individually distinctive within the context of American Foursquare houses in Racine (94 others have been recorded in WHPD) or within the surrounding neighborhood. This building has not been previously surveyed. A new AHI record was created. |
